3 Important Lessons In My Blog Journey

It has been one year this March since I started my blog journey. March is also my birth month. I guess this makes March my month of new beginnings. I have learned many things about the blog journey during the past 12 months. Starting a blog was always a dream of mine and I started this one to share my thoughts, promote my book, and help mothers going through their postpartum period. I also wanted to talk about living with toddlers. One year later into my blog journey, I’m still learning and growing.

Lessons Learned

You Don’t Know How Much You Don’t Know Until You Start

My first blog posts were simple. These blog posts were just a way to express myself. I had no idea about things like keywords, backlinks, and SEO. Then I said why not get more serious about my blog? I started researching tips for new bloggers and I fell down a rabbit hole of information. I had no idea there was so much behind writing a blog post.

Build a Community

I joined a few blogging groups on Facebook that helped me narrow down what I should focus on as a new blogger. Being in a community also helped me feel less lonely as a new blogger, especially when I struggled to write or find new content.

Perseverance is another lesson I’ve learned. No one achieves overnight success with a blog. You won’t get one million views in your first month. In the beginning, when I posted my articles, I was frustrated by the lack of page views, but the blogging community helped me realize that this journey is a marathon, not a sprint. Starting is the key, and keeping to a consistent blog schedule helps.

Stay Consistent

This leads to the next lesson which is consistency. You have to consistently post once per week, twice per month, or every day if that is your goal. You have to ensure your readers know when it is best to check your blog. I’m still working on consistently posting at least once per week.

Write What Interests You

When you write about what truly interests you, the writing process becomes easy. My favorite blog post when I first started blogging detailed a rough moment in my day. It was short and to the point. Now that I’ve learned more about blogging, a favorite article I researched talked about making a self-care plan. Both articles were fun to write because they interested me.

I’m excited to see where the upcoming year takes me as I continue to blog. I want to leave you with a list of affirmations that have helped me in this journey. These affirmations will help to you stay consistent and persevere on your blog journey.

  1. SEO was a huge learning curve for me when I started to take my blogging more seriously. I’m still learning something new about SEO whenever I read up on some tips! Blogging is such a great creative outlet and it truly is a marathon, not a spring. As someone who restarted their blogs many times, I have to remind myself of this whenever I get discouraged with low views when my blog is new, compared to my old blogs.

Thank you for sharing a list of affirmations as well! I’m saving these to incorporate them into my blogging planner :)

  2. This is going to sound weird lol but amazing. March is my birth month too. AND I started my blog last year March TOO 😂❤️. It’s such a coincidence! Anyway, your tips are right on the nail because I have been grappling with how to make my blog grow but also enjoy it. The whole process of SEO is something I had to learn about, and staying consistent is something I’m starting to do now. Thank you for sharing your journey, it bolstered me to keep going.

    1. I guess this makes us birth and blog month twins. SEO is such a big challenge, but I try to stay motivated. Keep going on your journey. You never know where you’ll be next year.
