Seeking Big Blessings Out of Turn

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. Matthew 7:7, KJV

The toddlers sit down to eat. They are excited and eating with gusto. Occasionally, looking into the next one’s plate. Mary has been picking out all of her peas and placing them in a neat pile on the side of her plate. Matthew on the other hand has gobbled up his peas and wants more. He notices his sister’s pile and immediately puts his hand on her plate, taking the peas without asking. Mary yells, “Stop. Don’t eat my food.” She doesn’t want the peas but wishes he would ask. After all, it is rude to put your hand on other people’s plates. This interaction represents us reaching out for goals without consulting God. We fail in our quest, simply because we do not ask. God is patiently stockpiling our blessings but we forget to bring our requests to God. Maybe we are in a hurry. Maybe we are excited for more and forget that God should be the focus. God is willing to give us all that we desire, but we must ask for it.

What do you need to ask God for today?
